Families and friends of toddlers at Ashfield Nursery, Low Fell, took part in an unusual
"identify the babies" competition when they attended the nursery’s
Summer Fayre.
Fifteen of the nursery nurses posted up baby photographs of themselves to see if
anyone could recognise and correctly identify them.
Nearest to succeed – and to win a bottle of champagne! – was a parent
who correctly identified all but two of the 15 nurses from their baby photographs.
All of which surprised nursery manager Joanna Brown (pictured centre) who said: "I
reckoned it was impossible to identify all 15 from the baby photographs. I’ve
worked with the girls for ages, and managed to match only three."
Pictured are the nurses grouped around their baby photographs, plus five more shots
of all the fun at the Fayre.

How do you join in a record attempt for the largest number of young people reading aloud simultaneously when you haven't yet learnt to read?
The answer is simple as these youngsters at Ashfield Nursery found out when they took part with 250,000 youngsters in all parts the country in the Guinness world record attempt in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital. They were helped by their nursery manager Joanna Brown (pictured left), and senior nursery nurse Gemma Pescod who read the charity’s chosen piece – a poem taken from the newly published 'Peter Pan in Scarlet' – a line at a time, which was then repeated by the children.
Says Joanna Brown: "The poem was five verses long and contained some challenging vocabulary for three and four-year-olds, so we had to rehearse quite a lot to enable them to become familiar with it. They were just about word perfect on the day."
The event, called 'The Big Time Rhyme' took place on Peter Pan Day, so the Ashfield children dressed in Peter Pan and Tinkerbell costumes.
Their sponsorship totalled £40.

Twenty pre-school children dressed in Peter Pan and Tinkerbell costumes -- all attending Ashfield Nursery and ELC, Low Fell -- will join quarter-of-a-million children across the country on March 7 in an attempt to smash the Guinness world record for the largest number of young people reading aloud simultaneously.
The Ashfield children have not yet started to read but they will join in the event by reciting the piece chosen by the charity -- a poem taken from the newly-published Peter Pan in Scarlet – simultaneously with youngsters at various venues across the country.
The event, called the 'Big Time Rhyme', takes place on Peter Pan Day on March 7, the culmination of Peter Pan Week which aims to raise £300,000 towards a new renal unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
Says Ashfield nursery manager, Joanna Brown: "We are involving the whole nursery when every child will dress up as Peter Pan or Tinkerbell. The pre-school children, who are sponsored by parents and friends, have been practising for weeks to learn the words of the five-verse poem with the help of a specially produced DVD. It's been quite a challenge for them but also a lot of fun. We think this sort of event is very beneficial for the children because it helps them to realise that not all youngsters are as fortunate as they are."
A Great Ormond Street Hospital spokesman said: "The gift of Peter Pan was the most generous present author J M Barrie could have given to the Great Ormond Street Hospital and the success of Peter Pan in Scarlet will ensure that the hospital will benefit for many years to come."
