Ashfield Nursery South Shields and Gateshead

The group comprises of three nurseries at the present time, with plans to extend the operation of the business in the near future. Whilst each has its own individual character, all three are run to a single standard of care. There is also a common standard of safety and security. All entrances are security controlled and all utilise internal and external CCTV.

Our three Nursery and Early Learning Centres are located as follows:

Joicey Road Nursery, Low Fell, Gateshead

Set in seven acres of wooded grounds, the two storey listed building was originally the residence of a coal mining entrepreneur and was more recently used as a teacher training establishment. This is the largest of our three nurseries and was opened in September 2001 following a £700,000 renovation of the building.
At this nursery we have a converted a former coach house into a dedicated baby unit, where we care for babies from 6 weeks to 18 months old.

The large grounds allow ample parking space and a secure out door soft play area.

Stanhope Road Nursery, South Shields

This nursery opened in May 2002. It is mainly open plan, which we find can ease the transition for the children as they progress from one group to the next in line with their age and development.

The nursery was extended in Spring 2003 to provide additional accommodation for our 3 – 5 year group.

In the Summer of 2003, £90,000 was invested in a new play area extension. The opening ceremony was performed by the Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor Linda Waggott.

Ashfield Court Nursery, South Shields

Run in partnership with South Tyneside NHS trust the nursery is located within the grounds of South Tyneside District Hospital, in a building converted and adapted specifically for use as a nursery, at a cost in excess of £300,000.

The style of this modern building and the largely open plan layout give a light and fresh feel to the nursery, which also has a secure outdoor soft play area.

The partnership, the first of its kind in the region, represents the application of the directive to provide childcare for hospital staff. The nursery opened in October 2002 and the uptake by both hospital staff and the wider public in that short time has been remarkable.
